By using the 3Designer authoring software, designers can create 2D or 3D, template based, TV news graphics and animations. 3Designer stations can utilize a local preview option for scene verification, or alternatively, they can be connected to the HDVG rendering platform to allow the designers of the TV news graphics to test their creation in a “real environment”. A series of dedicated plug-ins such as the Map Cube maps database or the Line graph plug-in can be added to 3Designer in order to deal with specific requirements.
Using the Page Editor application operators can create and publish pages based on the designed scenes, along with their data entries. Data entries can be inserted locally by the operator or alternatively linked to external databases for live data feeds. Once published these pages become available to those involved in the news production chain such as editors and journalists, and are then ready for live production using the Maestro playout controller.
Rundowns are easily created either locally by the Maestro operator, or whenever an automated newsroom system is in place, access to the published templates is done from within the newsroom system (such as ENPS, iNews, OCTOPUS Newsroom, Dalet etc.) itself. This allows the journalist to continue working within a familiar environment; the journalist can call up the page, enter relevant data for the story, preview it on a local machine and once satisfied with the outcome, the story can be sent either for authorization or directly to the newsroom rundown. Once the newsroom rundown is updated, the rundown within the Maestro Controller is automatically updated as well. Even during a production when the need arises for last minute changes, it is sufficient to update the newsroom rundown, which causes an automatic update of the TV news graphics’ rundown as well.
Maestro also provides a complete graphic asset management (GAM) system which enables the registration or all assets such as rundowns, templates, items, etc into a central database with configurable metadata fields. The metadata fields, such as author, version, etc are then used for browsing and searching assets by the different users of the system. Maestro also provides a turnkey user rights management solution which allows assigning the different users to different users groups and providing different access rights to different groups. This mechanism enables the TV station to manage and control the access of different users to different assets.
In addition, Orad's Portal Media Center consolidates, automates and streamlines all these media sources including multiple live HD and SD video feeds, video clips in any format or resolution, 3D graphics, audio and full screen backgrounds into a single output that can feed the production switcher.
