HDVG

Orad’s HDVG is a universal video-graphics platform, based on high-quality PC components and Orad’s own video I/O subsystem. All Orad’s broadcast graphics products rely on the HDVG, including: general-purpose CG and 3D graphics, tickers, MCR graphics, channel branding, virtual sets, and autopromos. The ability to perform DVE effects is a natural consequence of multiple simultaneous video inputs mapped to 3D objects. Virtual sets leverage the powerful graphics allowing real-time depth of field effects. Virtual advertising and sport enhancement make use of the multi-color and multi-matte built-in chroma key and video delay.

Designed for broadcasting

The HDVG is a compact 3U rack mountable system made out of carefully selected PC components and runs on the powerful and virus free Linux operating system.

At the heart of the HDVG lays Orad’s HDVG I/O board. Unlike other I/O boards, the HDVG I/O board was designed for real time graphics and establishes a direct connection between the I/O board and the graphics board, eliminating the need for graphics read backs through the mother board. By doing so, the HDVG board frees significant system resources, resulting in faster rendering, the ability to manipulate multiple video inputs and video clips, and more. In its standard configuration the HDVG contains 1 HDVG I/O board which could be scaled up to 3 I/O boards which increases the number of video inputs the HDVG could handle in parallel.

To enhance redundancy, the HDVG employs hot swappable dual power supplies and in the event of a power failure the system automatically switches to the backup power supply, thereby not affecting the production process. The HDVG is also equipped with a mechanical bypass that will automatically route the incoming video signal to an alternative channel. The HDVG is provided with a 1GB dual link Ethernet network card and to increase reliability, RAID 1 hard drives are provided.

Rich media platform 
 

The HDVG’s unique architecture supports up to 6 1080i@50hz or 5 1080i@60Hz configurable full resolution HD video inputs or alternatively up to 12 configurable full resolution SD video inputs.

Using video to texture technology the inputted video can be mapped on any object in the graphic scene and is not limited to a plain surface. Any animation, applied to the mapped object, will automatically animate the inserted video, creating an unlimited number of 3D and 2D DVE effects.

Regardless to the number of the inserted videos the HDVG retains a constant minimal 2 frames delay.
Based on the same video to texture mapping technology, the HDVG is capable of playing multiple video files supporting all commonly used formats such as AVI, Quick Time (with alpha), DV, DV25, and MPEG. The clips can be stored locally on the HDVG or alternatively stored on a server and streamed over the network in real-time.
 

SD/HD switchable system
 

The HDVG is an HD/SD system that supports PAL, NTSC and all commonly used HD formats. The HDVG can be configured as a Standard Definition system or as a switchable High and Standard Definition system offering smooth transitions from one mode to the other without the need for any mechanical changes when switching between formats.

Internal Mixer
 

The HDVG is equipped with an internal linear key which places the graphics on top of the video feed as opposed to sending them first to an external mixer desk, significantly saving both time and resources. This is especially useful when deploying the HDVG in a downstream workflow. The HDVG can also output fill & key to the mixer when working in an upstream setup.

Embedded audio
 

The HDVG is equipped with 16-channel (8 stereo pairs) embedded audio, with each channel supporting 3-source audio mixing. The audio can be embedded to the incoming video streams and can be mixed together with audio coming from .wav files to a single output. The operator gains full control over volume, cross fades and more.

Control panel
 

The HDVG’s completely flexible control panel is used to easily configurate its video input and output settings on single or multiple HDVG rendering hosts. Through the control panel the operator can assign the hardware profile, including control genlock, mixer, etc, according to the set up.

Changes to the HDVG can be done via changing its streams, which contain all the properties required to work within a specific broadcasting environment.

Render engine

The power and flexibility of the HDVG is brought to air by Orad's RenderEngine. The RenderEngine provides visually stunning yet simple to control intelligent graphics templates with controllable data entry points, and with internal connections between graphics elements and math functions that reduce the number of data entry points.  Templates can be composed of multiple layers, each with its own view.  Multiple templates can be displayed at the same time or consecutively, and controlled independently, each having its own display priority and behaving like an independent playout box. Different logical elements can be assigned to different virtual channels: station bug, ticker, lower third, over-the-shoulder, full screen graphics and multiple tickers can run in any direction.

The HDVG supports mapping video clips and live video inputs on any 3D objects. In addition, it supports shaders that can control the appearance of the textures (such as bump mapping, displacement mapping), and offers high quality texts with rich decorations generated in real time that fully supports Unicode and language scripts. Its real time depth of field capabilities ensures that the graphics are in sync with the camera’s zoom and focus.
